Aurora PostgreSQL

Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL is a managed PostgreSQL-compatible service. It is the right target when its availability and storage model match the application, not merely because it is on AWS.

Aurora, or PostgreSQL

Applications written for PostgreSQL often move to Aurora with less change than a move to a different engine. Extensions, version, failover behavior and how you administer it still have to be checked. If you only need PostgreSQL on AWS and you want fewer service-specific behaviors, a standard PostgreSQL instance can be the better fit. We will say which.

PostgreSQL administration alongside SQL Server is on database services. Moving onto AWS is part of cloud database services.

What we compare

  • PostgreSQL version and extensions the application uses
  • Failover and read-replica expectations
  • Backup and restore the way your operators work
  • Whether the source is PostgreSQL, or a different engine entirely
