AWS Database Migration Service is a way to copy and replicate data into AWS while the source stays online. It is a migration tool. It is not a reporting platform.
DMS helps when you need a continuous copy during a cutover to RDS, Aurora or another supported target. Large objects, ongoing change capture and data types that DMS handles poorly have to be found in a trial, not on cutover night. If the source or the transformation does not fit DMS, we will say so and use a different load.
That decision lives with ETL and data integration and database cloud migration.
If DMS is a poor fit, we will tell you before a task is built.
